U16 Girls Jr Hurricanes Win the Rock n Roll Tourney in Cleveland
U16 Girls Jr Hurricanes Win the Rock n Roll Tournament in Cleveland
The U16 Girls team traveled up to Cleveland this past weekend and captured gold in the Rock n Roll Tournament.
The girls dominated throughout the weekend with strong offense and suffocating defense winning their first 3 games by scores of 5-0 against the Cleveland Lady Barons, 3-1 against the Finger Lake Freeze, and 7-0 against Southern Pittsburgh which qualified them for the championship game.
In the championship game against the Cleveland Lady Barons, neither team could find the back of the net with top notch goaltending being shown on both sides. The Lady Hurricanes finally scored with a little over 3 minutes in the game. But with just 22 seconds left in the game and the Lady Barons having pulled their goalie, they tied it up. After a scoreless 5 minute overtime the Lady Hurricanes were able to score once in the shootout which proved to be enough as the Lady Barons could not, sealing the championship and bringing home the cup.

U18AA Jr. Hurricanes Win CAHA State Championship
Earn Trip to U18 Tier II Nationals
The U18AA Jr. Hurricanes won the CAHA U18 Tier II State Championship this weekend in Pineville NC in a nail-biting overtime that saw the Hurricanes defeat the U18AA Jr. Checkers 4-3 to advance to Nationals in E. Lansing, MI, April 6-10.
The Jr. Hurricanes demonstrated passion, grit and teamwork throughout the weekend by winning three round-robin games against the Jr. Checkers A (5-0), Jr Checkers AA (3-2) and Carolina Eagles (3-1) to retain their #1 seeding and advance to the Championship Game against a Jr. Checkers team who they had gone 2-2 -1 throughout the regular season.
With the state championship and a trip to Nationals on the line the Hurricanes came out hungry. The Jr. Hurricanes scored 2 goals in the first period to take the lead early on. However, the Checkers responded with a goal with 11 seconds left in first and another goal at the beginning of the second to tie the game. With 1:38 left in the second period once again took the Hurricanes lead. The Hurricanes continued to battle hard for the puck and fought hard to maintain the lead but a hooking penalty at the beginning of the third period gave the Checkers the opportunity score and tie the game at 3-3. Regulation ended with neither team scoring again. As overtime was about to start the Jr. Hurricanes knew they would have to reach deep to win the game. At 5:51 into the overtime the Hurricanes achieved the goal they had set at the beginning of the season. They had earned a trip to Nationals. Coach Rich Brouwer said “ Kudos to the boys for checking their ego at the door - they are heading to Michigan for Nationals because of a total team effort - every single player contributed in their own way to this Championship. At the end of the weekend they did not want to have any REGRETS - mission accomplished.” Congratulations!

Following great performances in the first 2 round robin games, both Pineville
and Jr Canes White came into their last qualifying game with 2-0 records. The
game was an intense and physical match with both teams going hard at the
opponent. In the end it was a 2-2 tie and a great preview of the championship
game. In the Semi-Finals, Pineville played Jr Canes Red for the slot in the
finals. This was a tough game pushing both teams to the limit. The match ended
in a shootout, with Pineville defeating the Red team and setting up a rematch in
With the stage set the teams hit the ice for a fast paced, high energy game.
The energy on the ice being matched by the crazy fans in the stands, and some
extra help from our fellow Jr Canes teams. With horns blaring and cow bells
ringing the Jr Canes jumped out to a 4-0 lead. But Pineville would not
surrender so easily. Reminiscent of their earlier match, Pineville rallied back
and tied the game in the 3rd. Refusing to see their tournament hopes spoiled,
Jr Canes White rallied for 3 more goals to put the game away. In the end the Jr
Canes prevailed 7-4, including a 5 goal game from big man Cam Todd.
The victory came as a great end to an even better season. Let's Go Canes!
